Public Spaces

With support from Public Works, the Public Spaces Committee has transformed urban spaces into beautiful public gardens. Dan Phipps and a cadre of volunteers maintain over a dozen gardens in prominent spots such as Willi Brew, the Willimantic Public Library, and the Windham Textile and History Museum. The Schilberg Butterfly Garden, near Jillson House, got special attention in spring of 2020 with the removal of invasives (thank you, Public Works!) and the addition of carefully chosen pollinator plantings such as elderberry bushes, bee balm, and Rudbeckia.
