It's an art sale! It's a fundraiser! It's a birthday party! It's all that and more!
The Friends of the Garden on the Bridge cordially invite everyone to “The Shortest Ever Art Show and Sale” at the Windham Senior/Community Center, 1 Jillson Square, Willimantic, CT 06226. Enjoy a glass of wine, listen to Jay Daly’s live music, and learn about the good things happening at the Garden on the Bridge.
Watercolor: Jim Szarkowicz
This month marks the third anniversary of the Friends’ work repairing and revitalizing this beautiful place, so more people can enjoy this hidden gem so close to Main Street. Plans include installing better lighting, providing benches and tables, putting in new planters and plantings, offering Wi-Fi, and adding bike racks. The Friends have worked with Town of Windham officials and Windham Public Works staff; won grants from the Pageau Trust, DEEP, and AARP; held crowd-funding drives; and received donations from generous residents. Now they're kicking off another round of fundraising with the support of SustainabilityCT – a private that group matches 100% of donations received. In effect, a donation of any amount is doubled. Their goal for this drive is $15,000.
The art on sale is from painters and photographers who were inspired by the beauty of the Garden on the Bridge. Paintings and photographs will be on display, and prints and cards of Jim Szarkowicz's watercolor will be available. Shown below is Kerri Quirk’s 20” x 24” impression of her first sight of the Garden on the Bridge, priced at $400. All funds raised will go toward restoring the now 20-year-old park.
At 5:15 pm on the 13th, just prior to the celebration, Jean de Smet will lead a walk across the Garden on the Bridge (440 Main Street). Join her to see for yourself what's been accomplished -- and what still needs work. This walk is sponsored by The Last Green Valley as part of its roster of spring events.
